Course Aim
This course aims to develop your ability to coach in a workplace setting. It also aims to enable coaches to evaluate the process and outcomes of coaching to demonstrate its usefulness to an organisation. This course will use coaching models as a framework to conduct coaching in the workplace.
Course Objectives
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Have an understanding of the principles, processes and ethics of coaching
- Demonstrate competency in coaching
- Have an understanding of the factors that impinge on coaching in an organisation
- Have an understanding of the power of coaching executives and business managers in achieving organisational goals.
Prerequisites: Currently coaching business managers or executives in a workplace setting, coaching in small-to-medium sized enterprises (SME's) or corporations, or wishing to enter this specialist area of coaching.
This course is designed to develop your ability to coach in a work place setting. One of the key goals of this course is to enable coaches to evaluate the process and outcomes of coaching to then demonstrate its usefulness to an organization.

Course Delivery
Class Content
Two hours per week for twelve weeks comprising two one hour teleclasses.
Methods of Teaching
A variety of methods are used including lectures, presentations, online exercises, teleclasses, surveys and case study analysis.
Teleclasses
The teleclasses will cover some theoretical aspects of the week's topic and should be treated as a general guide to the reading for the topic. Students will also be expected to discuss the set reading, as well as extra reading or relevant journal articles. Students will consider case studies relevant to the theory, and discuss ways of handling the situation. Reading for the week's topic must be done prior to the teleclass.
Workload
Students are expected to spend at least three hours per week outside class time on this course.
Outside class time should include:
- Discussion board postings
- Review of reading material
- Implementing coaching skills into management/leadership position
- Evaluating practice against theory
- Revision of material from previous weeks
